Overview: Rational
Rational
California, San Joaquin County and Lodi economies are tied to the price and availability of petroleum products. Most have been refined in the state to its unique blend requirements from oil sources from the US and foreign sources. As refineries in California shut down, California is forced to import oil from other countries. This page tracks: 1) the price of oil for all global suppliers, highlighting current oil sources used by California refineries, 2) the operational status, capacity and current output of all California refineries, and 3) whether California refinery production for gasoline, diesel and jet-A is sufficient to meet demand. All data is updated daily.
Key Benchmarks
Live spot prices and daily movements for WTI, Brent, ANS West Coast, Dubai/Oman and other benchmarks tracked by California refineries. Crude cards are filtered by default to CA refinery sources only, but can be toggled to show all global crudes.
Price Trends — 1 Year & 10 Years
One-year daily closing price trend chart for WTI, Brent, ANS West Coast, and Dubai/Oman, plus a 10-year area chart for long-term historical context. ANS West Coast is highlighted as the primary California refinery input crude.
CA Supply vs. Demand
Side-by-side grouped bar chart comparing California in-state refinery production against statewide annual consumption for CARBOB Gasoline, CARB Diesel, and Jet-A. Where demand exceeds output, the gap is met through pipeline imports and marine shipments. Source: EIA-820, CARB, CEC (2023 annual averages).
CA Refined Product Output by Refinery
Stacked horizontal bar chart showing CARBOB Gasoline, CARB Diesel, and Jet-A output in barrels per day for every CARB-spec producing refinery. Renewable fuel facilities (Phillips 66 Rodeo Renewed, Marathon Martinez) are excluded as they do not produce CARB-spec petroleum products.
California Refinery Status Cards
Individual cards for all 13 California refineries tracked by EIA-820 showing operating status, nameplate capacity in barrels per day, current utilization rate, a full product output breakdown with relative bar charts, and crude source tags identifying where each facility sources its input crude.
