Fireworks in Lodi

Legal Fireworks:
Only fireworks classified as “Safe and Sane” by the California State Fire Marshal are legal for sale and use within the City of Lodi[1][3].
All other types—including aerials, firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles, and any that explode, fly, or move erratically—are illegal[3].
When and Where You Can Use Fireworks:
Fireworks may only be used from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4[4].
It is illegal to discharge any fireworks within 10 feet of any residential dwelling[4].
Fireworks must not be used on public property, including parks and streets[4].
Only adults may purchase, possess, or use fireworks. Minors are strictly prohibited from selling, buying, possessing, or using fireworks. Adults are also prohibited from allowing minors to use fireworks[4].
Enforcement and Penalties:
Lodi Police and Fire Departments will conduct special enforcement operations throughout June and July, including the use of drones to identify violations[4].
Violations can result in fines of thousands of dollars and possible jail time[4].
The city provides an online system for residents to report illegal fireworks activity[4].
Where to Purchase Legal Fireworks in Lodi
Authorized Sales:
Permits for the sale of Safe and Sane fireworks are limited to six stands within Lodi. These stands are operated by local nonprofit organizations selected through an annual lottery[1].
Only booths inspected and approved by the Lodi Fire Department are allowed to sell fireworks. Inspections occur late June, and sales run up to July 4[4].
Booths selling legal fireworks will display the “Safe and Sane” seal and are typically announced by the city and local nonprofits as the holiday approaches[4].
Vendors:
Approved wholesalers in Lodi include Phantom Fireworks and TNT Fireworks, but retail sales to the public are only conducted at the nonprofit booths[2].
The six nonprofit organizations selected for 2025 include local churches, youth organizations, and community groups. These booths will be open June 28 noon until 9 pm and on June 29 through July 4 9am until 9pm.
